Timber.
C16 is the everyday grade for stud walls, noggins and lightly loaded joists, while C24 is stronger and stiffer for longer spans or wherever an engineer specifies it. Treated lengths suit sole plates, battens and anything near damp, and planed CLS gives straight, consistent stud walls for drylining.

How to choose timber.
C16 is the everyday structural grade for joists, rafters and stud walls in most domestic work. C24 is stronger and straighter, so it spans further and suits work that will be seen. Treated timber is pressure treated against rot and insects for external use.
CLS has rounded arrises and consistent sizes, so it builds straight stud partitions quickly. Lengths are supplied as listed; cut ends of treated timber should be brushed with an end grain preservative.
