About this timber
Treated 25 x 50mm roofing battens in 4.8m lengths, graded to BS 5534 for fixing slates and tiles on rafters at up to 600mm centres. Each length is preservative treated and marked, which building control and roofing inspectors look for.
Battens also serve as counter battens, tiling grounds and fixing strips for cladding. Fix with ring shank nails into every rafter and stagger the joints. Buy in bulk for the lowest price: one hundred lengths and two hundred lengths both bring discounts.
